Kaiafas Lagoon and its beach are one of the most impressive natural destinations in the western Peloponnese, just a few kilometers south of Pyrgos and near Zacharo, in Ilia. The landscape uniquely combines the green of the pine forests with the blue of the sea and the lake, creating an ideal place for relaxation, exploration and well-being.
Kaiafas Lagoon
The lagoon is a natural lake approximately 3.5 kilometers long, extending between Mount Lapithas and the sea. It is surrounded by a dense pine forest, which offers shade and coolness even on the hottest days of summer. The lake has brackish waters and is an important wetland, hosting many species of birds and aquatic organisms.
On the island in the lake is the old Xenia Hotel complex, a classic example of Greek tourism architecture from the 1960s.
Thermal Springs
The area is also known for the Kaiafas thermal springs, located in a cave at the northern end of the lake. The thermal waters are rich in sulfur and have been used for centuries to treat rheumatism, arthritis and skin diseases. Visitors can enjoy baths in organized facilities that operate at various times of the year.
Kaiafas Beach
Right next to the lake lies the vast sandy beach of Kaiafas, with a length exceeding 20 kilometers. The beach is ideal for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. It has organized areas with sun loungers and beach bars, but also many free areas for those who prefer peace and contact with nature. The landscape is reminiscent of an exotic destination, with a backdrop of pine trees and the sound of the waves.
